The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is a two-seat long-range supersonic fighter-bomber still in service in some air forces, designed and manufactured at the time by the American company McDonnell Douglas in the early sixties. Having become one of the icons of American air superiority during the Vietnam War and the Cold War period during its long operational life, it is still in service with many air forces. he high flexibility of the project has allowed the evolution of the Phantom to include specific versions for aerial reconnaissance and ground attack with conventional and nuclear ammunition. The F-4 Phantom II was employed by the air forces of 11 other nations, in some of which, up-to-date, it is still in service. It is the second most built Western jet-powered fighter aircraft in the world, second only to the F-86 Saber.
