Metal Gear Solid is a stealth action video game released in 1998 by the Japanese software house Konami for the PlayStation console. It was directed, produced and written by Hideo Kojima and follows the MSX video games Metal Gear 2 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, also created by Kojima.

The story follows Solid Snake, a covert operative who must infiltrate a remote island nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat posed by FOXHOUND, a rogue U.S. Special Forces unit. Snake must confront the terrorists and prevent them from launching a nuclear attack with a terrifying new secret weapon.
