Smooth Criminal is a song written, composed and performed by American singer Michael Jackson, released on October 24, 1988 and extracted as the seventh single from the album Bad (1987).

It became one of the artist's best-known and most successful songs, reaching, among others, number 2 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and number 7 on Billboard's overall chart, number 1 in Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands, number 6 in Italy and number 8 in the United Kingdom.

The single has sold over 7.5 million copies, including 2 million in the United States alone, and was certified 2x platinum by the RIAA in 2018.

The song was included, along with its music video, in the 1988 Michael Jackson feature film Moonwalker. In 2003 it was included in the compilations Number Ones and The Essential: Michael Jackson, in 2004 in the box set The Ultimate Collection. In 2006 it was re-released on DualDisc in the video collection Visionary: The Video Singles, in 2009 in This Is It, while in 2011 a new remixed version of Smooth Criminal was included in the album Immortal.
