The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is the California state police. Created on August 14, 1929 with the exclusive function of traffic police, It is the largest state police force in the United States of America. The badge, which officers wear on the left chest and all vehicles on the side, features the seal of the state of California in the center of a seven-pointed star, each of which has a specific moral meaning (from the top left tip in clockwise): "Character, Integrity, Knowledge, Judgment, Honor, Loyalty, Courtesy"; the body's motto instead reads: Safety and Service ("Safety and Service"). CHP agents, nicknamed chippies, wear khaki or dark blue uniforms, depending on their roles. The government agency was made famous all over the world by the show CHiPs, which aired in the United States between 1977 and 1983 and repeated several times in Italy up to the present day.
