Audrey Hepburn (born Audrey Kathleen Ruston; Brussels, May 4, 1929 - Tolochenaz, January 20, 1993) was a British actress. Raised in Belgium, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, where she lived under the Nazi regime, during the Second World War she studied dance and then moved to the theater and finally to the cinema. Throughout her career she worked with Billy Wilder, George Cukor and Blake Edwards, as well as with the likes of Gregory Peck, Humphrey Bogart, Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, Rex Harrison, William Holden and Peter O'Toole and became famous thanks to roles such as that of Gigi in a play based on the novel of the same name by the French writer Colette (1951), an interpretation that earned her the Theater World Award for her theatrical debuts, of Princess Anna in Roman Holiday (1953), an interpretation that earned her the Best Actress Oscar, for Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) and Eliza Doolittle in the musical film My Fair Lady (1964).
