Metal Pin Helicopter Squadron Carabinieri Hunters of Calabria

The aged metal pin measures 4 x 4 cm

The Carabinieri Helicopter Squadron "Cacciatori Calabria" is a special unit of the Carabinieri, based in Vibo Valentia, dependent on the Deputy Commander of the Calabria Legion.

Founded on 1 July 1991 in Vibo Valentia within the Calabria Region Command of the Carabinieri[1] (Originally Cacciatori d'Aspromonte, conceived by the then commander of the Catanzaro Carabinieri Legion, Colonel Nicolo' Bozzo, a close collaborator of the General, Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa, from whom, for this new department, he borrowed the operations of the Anti-terrorism Units.

Colonel Bozzo took care of the name, studied the special uniforms and the shape of the red beret), then included in the Calabria Operations Group, established in 1992. Today's Carabinieri hunter squadrons therefore operate in support of the activities of the force, in operations in which the operational profile requires the intervention of specialized personnel.

In the military history of Italy, the Hunters' units were specifically dedicated to reconnaissance and disturbance actions and the name is not accidental, deriving from the particular modus operandi used by the unit to capture its "prey":

covert infiltration into the territory (special reconnaissance and control of the territory);
stakeout (target acquisition and operations planning);
rapid and unexpected attack (direct action or assault).

The Red Berets of the "Calabria" Squadron
The distinctive element of the Carabinieri Cacciatori is the characteristic "Red Beret", which the operators have proudly worn since 1991.
