Mister Sinister, whose real name is Nathaniel Essex, is a comic book character created by Chris Claremont and Marc Silvestri in 1987, published by Marvel Comics.

He is a supervillain of the Marvel mutant universe, although it does not seem that his powers and longevity are congenital. Mister Sinister is an enemy of the X-Men who has lived a long time and is skilled in designing and carrying out complex plans, and is also a sworn enemy of Cyclops. He was first mentioned in Uncanny X-Men #221 of September 1987, by the villain Sabretooth, and then appeared in issue #222. He was created by writer Chris Claremont. The graphic design was by artist Marc Silvestri.
