MACV-SOG (Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group) was a special forces unit that carried out a series of clandestine, highly classified, and unconventional operations in the Vietnam War.

SOG operated over a very broad scope, encompassing large areas of South Vietnam, North Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

Laos and Cambodia were countries where the U.S. military was officially prohibited from operating, and for this reason, SOG units and operators had to operate in complete secrecy on their missions outside Vietnam.

This military unit, given the difficulty and delicacy of the operations, was composed mainly of members of the Army Special Forces also known as "Green Berets", the Navy SEALs, and the US Marine Reconnaissance Forces.
