The Fiat Ritmo (also marketed as the Fiat Strada) is a car model produced by the Italian car manufacturer FIAT between 1978 and 1988 in the Fiat plants in Cassino (FR) and in the Fiat plant in Rivalta (TO).

The car was produced from 1978 in two different series, the second of which was created in 1982, to be replaced in the C segment, the market segment it covered in the FIAT price list, by the Tipo.

The 138 project, intended to develop a successor to the 128, was launched in 1972. The aim was to give the FIAT mid-size car a more modern look, so as to keep pace with the segment's protagonists abroad, in particular the Volkswagen Golf and Renault 14.

For the first time in Fiat's history, marketing played a key role in defining the car's design, "imposing" the creation of a two-box hatchback, seating for five, a functional interior, and "distinctive differentiation from the competition." This solution had been rejected ten years earlier for the 128 produced in Italy, but was used for the Yugoslavian version.

In 1982, the Ritmo received further detailed modifications, the most notable of which was undoubtedly the disappearance of the distinctive "tail" at the end of the roof, which had proven aerodynamically counterproductive by creating vortices that, among other things, sucked in dust and water kicked up by the rear wheels, dirtying the rear window. Although the first series had been on the market for four years and was nearing the end of production, FIAT introduced another version that year: the 125 TC Abarth.

Powered by a 1995 cm³ twin-cam, twin-barrel carburettor engine producing 125 HP at 6000 rpm, the version developed by Abarth had a very sporty body (only 3 doors) based on the 105 TC, with the addition of specific Pirelli alloy wheels with 185/60-R14 P6 tyres, Abarth 2000 side adhesive strip, rubber rear spoiler at the base of the rear window, chrome muffler, sports seats and a racing steering wheel.
