The Fiat Ritmo (also marketed as Fiat Strada) is a car model produced by the Italian car manufacturer FIAT between 1978 and 1988 in the Fiat factories of Cassino (FR) and Rivalta (TO).

The car was produced from 1978 in two different series, the second of which was made in 1982, to be replaced in the C segment, the market segment it covered in the FIAT price list, by the Tipo.

Project 138, intended for the development of a successor to the 128, was launched in 1972. The goal was to give the medium-sized FIAT a more modern look, in order to keep pace with the segment leaders outside national borders, particularly the Volkswagen Golf and Renault 14.

For the first time in Fiat's history, marketing played a decisive role in defining the car's design, "imposing" the creation of a two-box car with a rear tailgate, seating for 5 people, functional interiors, and "a distinct recognizability compared to the competition." This solution had been discarded ten years earlier for the 128 produced in Italy but used for the Yugoslav version.

In 1982, the Ritmo underwent further detailed modifications, the most striking of which was certainly the disappearance of the characteristic "tail" at the end of the roof, which had proved counterproductive from an aerodynamic point of view, creating vortices that, among other things, sucked up dust and water raised by the rear wheels, dirtying the rear window. Although the first series had been on the market for 4 years and was nearing the end of production, in that year FIAT still introduced a further version: the 125 TC Abarth.

Powered by a twin-carburetor, twin-cam 1995 cm³ engine delivering 125 hp at 6000 rpm, the Abarth-tuned version had a very sporty body (3 doors only) based on the 105 TC, with additional specific Pirelli alloy wheels with 185/60-R14 P6 tires, an Abarth 2000 side sticker strip, a rubber rear spoiler at the base of the rear window, a chrome exhaust tip, sports seats, and a racing steering wheel.
