The Alfa Romeo 164 is a sedan produced from 1987 to 1997 at the Alfa Romeo plant in Arese, conceived as the heir to the Alfa 6, Alfetta, and Alfa Romeo 90 as the flagship of the Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo's production, and based on the platform named "Tipo 4".
After ten years of production and 269,894 units produced, the model was succeeded by the Alfa Romeo 166, although it remained in the catalog in some versions until the first months of 1998.
During the ten years the 164 was in the catalog, there were two main restylings. The first occurred in 1990 and involved some interior details, from the upholstery to some details like the central tunnel buttons and the new air conditioning management.
From a technical point of view, the suspensions were improved, and the ride height was lowered by 3 cm. In early 1992, with the introduction of the new 155 mid-size car, the specific displacement of the 2.0 Twin Spark increased from 1962 cm³ to 1995 cm³ to rationalize production.
