The Alfa Romeo 164 is a sedan car produced from 1987 to 1997 at the Alfa Romeo plant in Arese, designed as the heir to the Alfa 6, Alfetta and Alfa Romeo 90 as the flagship of the production of the Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo and based on the platform called "Tipo 4".
After ten years of production and 269,894 units produced, the model gave way to the Alfa Romeo 166, although some versions remained on the price list until the first months of 1998.
During the ten years the 164 was in the catalog, there were two major restylings. The first occurred in 1990 and affected some interior details, from the upholstery to details like the center console buttons, to the new climate control system.
From a technical point of view, the suspension was improved and the ride height was lowered by 3 cm. At the beginning of 1992, with the presentation of the new 155 medium-sized model, the specific displacement of the 2.0 Twin Spark went from 1962 cm³ to 1995 cm³ to rationalize production.
