The Alfa Romeo 155 (project number 167) is a D-segment car produced by the Italian automaker Alfa Romeo from 1992 to 1998 at the Alfa Romeo plant in Pomigliano d'Arco.
Launched to replace the Alfa Romeo 75 (which, however, remained in production in "1.6 i.e." and "2.0 TD" versions until the end of 1993), the 155 abandoned the classic transaxle and rear-wheel-drive scheme of Alfa Romeo mid-size cars, adopting a front-wheel-drive configuration and 4-wheel independent suspension. The 155 used the Tipo2 platform, sharing with other cars derived from the same project, the wheelbase length and MacPherson type front suspension and trailing arm rear suspension.
Like its predecessor, the Alfa Romeo 75, the Alfa Romeo 155 boasts special mass-produced versions, each with its own distinctive characteristics for those versions.
In 1992, in the wake of the victories achieved by the 155 GTA in the Italian CIVT championship, it was decided to start production of a "Stradale" GTA version to be built at the Abarth workshop.
The car was born from the transformation of the Q4. The modifications concerned: the carbon bodywork, the rear suspension with the Delta scheme, and the Delta Evoluzione engine.
Due to prohibitive production costs, only one car was produced. The car was exhibited at the Bologna Motor Show and was used in the 1994 Italian Grand Prix at Monza as a safety car.
