The United States Coast Guard (USCG, also abbreviated US Coast Guard or US Coast Guard) is the coast guard of the United States, one of the six armed forces of the United States. Its missions include maritime police, marine assistance, maritime search and rescue (SAR), national defense, and pollution control.

Its officially assigned mission is to protect the citizens, the environment, and the economic and security interests of the United States in every maritime region where these interests may be at risk, including international waters, coasts, ports, and inland waterways. Unlike other U.S. armed forces, which are subordinate to the Department of Defense, the U.S. Coast Guard is placed under the Department of Homeland Security.

The motto of the corps is "Semper paratus" ("Always ready").
