The pin is made of enamelled metal and measures 2.5 x 3 cm


The wing is named after Francesco Baracca, an Italian flying ace during World War I, and the prancing horse symbol was his personal emblem.

It is a unit specialized in air and ground support for special operations, search and rescue (SAR), and recovery of isolated personnel (Personnel Recovery).

The unit is based at Caserta-Grazzanise airport and depends on the 1st "Special Operations" Air Brigade.

The personnel and helicopters (such as the HH-101 and HH-212) of the 9th Wing operate both in Italy and in international missions for the defense of national interests and humanitarian relief.
