Death Note is a manga written by Tsugumi Ōba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. It was serialized in Japan from December 1, 2003 to May 15, 2006 in the weekly magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump by the publishing house Shūeisha and then collected in twelve tankōbon volumes. The Italian edition was edited by Planet Manga, a label of Panini Comics, which published the work from October 19, 2006 to September 18, 2008.


The story centers on Light Yagami, a brilliant high school student who finds a supernatural notebook called the Death Note, thrown to Earth by the god of death Ryuk. The object gives the user the power to kill anyone simply by writing their name in the notebook while mentally picturing their face. Light intends to use the Death Note to eliminate all criminals and create a world free of evil, but his plans are thwarted by the intervention of Elle, a private investigator called to investigate the case of the mysterious deaths of criminals.


The manga has been followed by numerous derivative works: a 37-episode anime television series, five feature films, a live action television miniseries, a drama, a musical, two light novels, and various video games.
