The U.S. Army Medical Corps of World War II grew from 1,200 physicians to over 50,000 by the end of the war, providing medical care, developing new treatments such as mobile surgical hospitals, overseeing public health in occupied territories, and performing other vital functions such as food inspection and record keeping.
Its various branches, including the Dental Corps, the Veterinary Corps, and the rapidly growing Administrative Medical Corps, worked to support the health of troops and treat casualties on and off the battlefield.
