The Carabinieri Presidential Nucleus, now formally part of the Carabinieri Department of the Presidency of the Republic (RCCPR), is the unit responsible for the security of the President of the Republic, the Quirinale Palace, and the Castelporziano Estate. It includes specialized escorts, perimeter security, and environmental surveillance, with assets that include snipers, CAT (Specialized Anti-Tank Riflemen), dog units, and Carabinieri Forestry Corps. Founded in 1973 as the "Presidential Carabinieri Nucleus," it now coordinates the Presidential Escorts Nucleus, the Quirinale Nucleus, and the Castelporziano Nucleus.

Structure and Main Tasks

Presidential Escort Unit: Constant training in self-defense, shooting, escort and first aid, with specialists such as snipers, bomb disposal experts, negotiators and CAT (Counter Assault Team) for complex interventions.

Quirinale Unit: Manages security around the perimeter and surrounding areas of the Quirinale Palace, which is reinforced for official events.

Castelporziano Unit: Responsible for surveillance of the extensive Presidential Estate, with canine and horse units, and the contribution of the Forestry Carabinieri for environmental monitoring and fire prevention.
