The 1st Air Brigade "Special Operations" is a large unit of the Italian Air Force, which integrates tactical transport aircraft and airborne troops, with the task of managing the sector of special forces and armed force protection forces.

The 1st Special Operations Air Brigade, named after Lieutenant Colonel Vezio Mezzetti, originated from the 1st Land Fighter Wing, created in Brescia on 7 May 1923, equipped with Hanriot HD.1s, SPAD S.VIIs, and SPAD S.XIIIs. The unit consisted of the 6th Group from Aviano, the 13th Fighter Group from Venaria Reale, and the 23rd Group from Cinisello Balsamo.
