The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is a state public safety agency. It is the state police force of California.

The badge, which officers wear on the left chest and all vehicles on the side, features the California state seal within a seven-pointed star, each of which has a specific moral meaning (clockwise from the top left point): "Character, Integrity, Knowledge, Judgment, Honor, Loyalty, Courtesy."


CHP officers, nicknamed chippies, wear khaki or dark blue uniforms, depending on their roles.
