Gryffindor is one of the four houses at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It is named after its founder, Godric Gryffindor, one of the four founders of Hogwarts.

Gryffindor ordered the Sorting Hat to choose students who possessed what he considered the noblest characteristics, such as courage, kindness and determination.

The house symbol is a lion and its colours are gold and red. The ghost of the house is Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, also known as "Nearly Headless Nick".
