Virgo Fidelis is the Marian title by which the Church venerates Mary, Mother of Jesus, chosen as the patron saint of the Carabinieri Corps in 1949 by Pope Pius XII.
The name is inspired by the famous motto of the Corps, "Nei secoli fedele" (Faithful throughout the centuries), and was proposed by the Military Ordinariate together with the Carabinieri chaplains. On that occasion, the touching Carabinieri Prayer was also composed.
