The Support Operations Teams (SOS) are units formed starting in 2016, in response to the contemporary increase in the terrorist threat towards the European continent, within all regiments and battalions of the Carabinieri. They are responsible for intervening as promptly as possible to deal with high-risk crisis situations, as well as preventing, countering and containing acts of terrorism, if the intervention of the GIS is not possible immediately, and in any case while waiting for it.
