The CAA is the training and specialization school of the Italian Alpine Troops.

It is considered a world-class center of excellence for training in mountain and arctic environments.

The school, founded in Aosta in 1934 as the "Central Military School of Mountaineering", trains officers and non-commissioned officers and experiments with new techniques and materials.

The center is based in Aosta, with a logistics base in Pollein, and sections in La Thuile and Courmayeur.
