The Operational Support Teams (SOS) are units established in 2016 in response to the contemporary increase in the terrorist threat facing Europe. They are part of all regiments and battalions of the Carabinieri Corps. They are responsible for responding as quickly as possible to high-risk crisis situations, as well as preventing, countering, and containing terrorist acts if the GIS is not immediately available, and in any case while awaiting its intervention.
