Evangelions, or Evas, are anthropomorphic mecha introduced in the anime television series Neon Genesis Evangelion, produced by studio Gainax and directed by Hideaki Anno, and in the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto.

In the original animated series, Evangelions are gigantic humanoids studied by a research center called Gehirn and the special agency Nerv for the purpose of fighting beings called angels.

In addition to their significant mechanical components, they have a basic organic structure, derived from that of two beings called Adam and Lilith. For this reason, they possess eyes, skin, internal organs, and nails similar to human ones, and have been classified by critics as cyborgs, rather than mecha in the traditional sense.
